Garden Newsletter

Spring has been a frightfully busy time for Two Peas. We are shaking things up, cleaning out the cobwebs and creating a huge batch of new ideas for the year. In the Creating Garden, we have been so busy coming up with new thoughts on sharing our creativeness with everyone via our newsletters and other methods. I thoroughly enjoyed having some of the girls participate and write sections of our newsletter this month. These girls have such a wealth of talent. The things these girls are going to do in the coming months, its going to be exciting, I am full of anticipation. National Scrapbooking day is closely approaching, and we are going to celebrate it in the best way we know how.... an online party with a day of scrapbooking!! We are working on online classes, and an insanely long list of creative observations and thoughts just waiting to be utilized by these uber talented people.
We are down a few people in our total numbers right now. I have been sent a lot of email about what is going to be done about these empty chairs. I will be looking around in May for some diverse talent to put in these spots. I have an extensive list of people who are interested in occupying these positions. If you are not on this list as of yet, but wish to be considered, email me at ggsub@twopeasinabucket.com with a small bio, your Two Peas user info, a scrapbooking resume, and some samples of your creative work.

Creating Garden April Theme---Old is New

The whole concept of Old products, product life cycles, and all that has been on my mind for a long time. I remember sitting on the floor in my office the day after our Garden Girl Crop and Sale, talking about it all with Ali E. We had taken a nap on my living room couches and then sat around my scrap room talking. about scrapbooking products. (shocking, I know.) and how cool some of the things in my stash were. some of the products were older though, but man, I loved them.

I love products, this is nothing new. But it isn't just new products that I love. Some of the products in my stash, that are my very favorites ever, are no longer being made! For instance, this week, the Garden Girls and I are on the hunt for some of the Ki Memories Pieces of Me collection. (watch my NSD favorite products kit for the papers that I could get my hands on!!) My favorite papers are not being reprinted, and I am going to run out of my own stash really soon. I think I may already begin to panic. I love old Ki Papers. I have a huge stack of their papers. I think it takes up a total of 1.5 feet in my armoire. with like 20 sheets of Subway alone, which was in their very first collection release. I still use it all the time. But its years old at this point! I still also use old Making Memories Brads. There are so many of these kinds of products in my stash that I will never get rid of, and will also look to repurchase if I find them.

For the most part, the product life cycle in our industry is a lot like a fashion industry. It changes with the trends, with the seasons and with each new trade show. I love new products, but sometimes I wish it wasn't so fast. I wish the turn over wasn't as often as it is.
My thought behind this months theme came from these feelings. and I wanted to show that there was still a place for some of these "old" products in our scrap supply stash.
The Garden Girls just really out did themselves with this theme. It was so super wonderful. If you have not yet gone to check out any of this month's themed projects, you really need to go look at them. Maria Grace pulled out her paperkins and used them. on not only one layout, but two!! You must see these layouts!!

Also, you should go back and read the blurb by Tracy Miller from the April Store Newsletter. She wrote up a great little spot on this theme. Miley and a few other Garden Girls did a fun little project using fibers in that newsletter also.

Below, are some new additions to the themed layout area:

Garden Girl Scrapspace---Rachel Ludwig
I've always wanted to call it my 'studio', but ever since we've moved in it's been such a disaster that it wasn't worthy of the name. Now that it's finally all neat and organized, I think the title is a bit more apt. :)

I couldn't get a wide angle shot of the room as the big window was throwing off my exposure, but I shot these pictures pretty much clockwise around the room. THe only thing I didn't take a picture of is to the left of the sink/striped baskets is a pantry style cupboard, which you'll see the inside of in one of the later pictures.

My biggest thing in organizing my room was having it be functional. AND neat. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted, but I think I'm a good ways there. Having stuff easily accessible and visible was key. Things that are shoved in a drawer are quickly forgottten. So having neat storage that was easy to access was important. The other factor was easy to clean up. I hate to clean up when I'm done, so I had to have a system where clean up was pretty easy. I've been working in this space for a week, and so far so good!

One of the other cool things about my room is that I have a 'dutch-door'. Basically a door cut in half that has a top and a bottom. I can close the bottom and keep little people out, but still hear what is going on in the rest of the house. I know this will be really handy when the new baby is a bit older :)

Also, my workspace is standing height. It's quite tall, but it's great if I want to pop in while making dinner or in between laundry to fiddle with a layout, do a little clean up, etc. I have a tall bar stool so I can also sit down for those long scrapping sessions.

Picture 1: A small little sink, perfect for cleaning stamps, washing my hands etc. Some letter sticker baskets and some stacking 12x12 trays (more on these later)

Picture 2 One of my favorite things is this big piece of glass on top of my workspace. This means I can cut with my exacto knife, paint, stamp, etc without worrying about ruining the countertop. I also keep right in front of my a few little metal locker-style bins with all sorts of goodies like rubons, tags, smaller stickers, etc. as well as my basic stamping supplies like acrylic blocks and inks. Just going through the stuff in these bins is inspiring to me and gives me layout ideas!

Picture 3 On my window sill you'll see some little glass jars from IKEA with ribbon tidbits sorted by color. and in front of that is a larger tin with longer ribbon lengths. The other tin holds my wood mounted mini stamps, and a bunch of my Fontwerks stamps.

Picture 4 In the corner is my embellishment storage. Got this at Canadian Tire and it holds most of my stuff...photo corners, brads, flowers, etc. On top is my collection of 'R's'.

Picture 5 My bulletin board/inspiration board. Just hung this up, but will add inspiration pieces, etc as I go along. Also handy for those partially used rub on sheets. And a cool little poster I picked up from Ali's Cafe Press shop :)

Picture 6 I just got these baskets at Michael's, and I love how they brighten up my room. AND they are 12x12 AND they were 40% off. woohoo! One holds all my American Crafts Letter Stickers, and the other holds a variety of stickers, rubons, chipboard letters, etc. Love having them front and center and digging through the baskets is just so inspiring to me. I love how it's easy to just pop the sheets all back in their baskets when I am done too.

Picture 7 These stacking 12x12 plastic trays are awesome. I put completed layouts in here, extra papers/cardstock that I've pulled out and don't want to file again. Really helps to keep my space clean and organized.

Picture 8 A closer view of my embellishment storage. I love having different sized drawers for all the various sized 'things' that come with scrapping.

Picture 9 This is the bottom portion of the pantry cupboard (not showing the top, just holds some baskets and my albums). Here is most of my paper storage.

Picture 10 I was inspired by how Tracy Kyle stored her 8.5x11 cardstock. So I bought some plastic magazine holders from Staples, flipped them on their side and added all my 8.5x11 cardstock. Next to that are some Cropper Hopper vertical files, and here I put the stuff from the companies I am on the Design Team for, and the ones that have galleries at 2Peas. Makes it easy to pull out and have all one manufacturer's stuff at my fingertips.

Picture 11 Bottom of my cabinet are wire baskets that hold Generations plastic envelopes with all my patterned paper inside. I store by manufacturer mostly, and then have a misc. folder as well. Totally got this idea from Jennifer Ditz McGuire. The other basket is my 12x12 cardstock. Now I just need to add the Cropper Hopper divider things to separate the colors.

Picture 12 Last picture. phew! This is one of the drawers...my main one that holds all my tools, adhesives, pens, punches etc. Super handy!
